C� �J (t�(�� AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON,
AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1220, PROVIDING MINOR
EDITORIAL CHANGES TO THE APPROVED TEXT OF SAID
ORDINANCE, WHICH ESTABLISHES A FLOOD PLAIN MAN-
AGEMENT PERMIT PROCEDURE.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Definitions.
Item 10. "FLOOD WAY" means the channel of a river or other water
course and the adjacent land areas that must be reserved in order to discharge
the base flood without cumulatively increasing the water surface elevation
more than one foot at any point. For the purposes of this chapter, the pres-
ent limits of the floodway are those designated on the Flood Boundary and
Floodway Map contained in the 1981 Flood Insurance Study. The location of
the floodway may be revised interpreted by the Director of Public Works, based
on conditions which may alter its location. Any such revisions may be based
upon:
A. Data utilized by the 1981 Flood Insurance Study;
B. Changes in elevations of areas within the floodway, occurring
since the last revision affecting such area;
C. Channel Changes.
Section 2. Applicability.
This ordinance shall apply to all areas of special flood hazard
within the City of Tukwila, as identified by the Flood Beepdary- ap4- F�eedway
Insurance Rate Map of the 1981 Flood Insurance Study, or as it is hereby
after interpreted by the Director of Public Works, revised or amended.
Within areas of special flood hazard, the Director of Public Works
shall obtain, review and reasonably utilize any base flood elevation data
available from federal, state or other sources, in order to administer the
specific standards contained in Section 4 of this ordinance.
Section 3. Development Permit Process.

Item D, Paragraph 2b(1) Review all development permit applications
to determine if the proposed development i s located in the 4 4�ee4wa)-
flood plain. If located on the f�eedway flood plain assure that the provisions
of this ordinance are met.
Section 4. Standards and Guidelines.
Item 4, Paragraph C Building materials utilized for construction
below the base flood level shall be materials that will not be damaged by
exposure to water and have structural components capable of resisting hydro-
static and hydrodynamic loads, resisting lateral movement, and effects of
buoyancy.
