Typically, a non -conforming sign that does not comply with the old sign code is permitted to remain in place indefinitely; however any proposed reface or copy changes would require the sign to come into conformance with the City's Sign Code, which would require the sign to be removed and replaced with a monument sign. Non -conforming signs in this category also cannot be relocated, replaced, or structurally altered. In this case, due to the fact that the sign faces advertising the previous tenant were removed from the freestanding sign, it is considered to be an "abandoned sign". In the Tukwila Municipal code, an abandoned signs is defined as a sign cabinet where the face has been broken or missing for 30 days or more. Therefore, the sign must be removed per TMC 19.16.050(A,1), which states "In the event that a non -conforming freestanding sign has been abandoned and the sign is not covered under a grace period found in Chapter 19.36, the Director shall order the property owner to remove the sign and sign structure within 45 days of issuance of a Notice and Order from the City." Concerning the proposed building -mounted signs, the south facing building -mounted sign may be refaced and the awning over the south -facing door may have the word "ENTRANCE" printed on it to direct customers (maximum 3 square feet). The east -facing side of the building along E Marginal Way may not have a building -mounted sign unless it is designated as a public entrance. If that is the case, the canopy may have a building -mounted sign installed on it. Alternately, you may choose to put a building -mounted sign further back, along the building wall above the canopy. No sign will be approved on the gray surface that extends above the canopy as it is not a parapet nor part of the facade. Please let me know if you have any additional questions. This modified from the last place and application due to the pylon sign not conforming. 1 have included specs for signs on two separate building sides. Sign 1 will be a non -illuminate , aluminum composite sign, 2' x 30'. Sign 2 will be refacing an existing sign cabinet. We will not be doing any electrical work for this sign, we are simply changing out the face. I have also included a drawing showing that the existing pylon sign will be removed.
