ORDINANCE NO. 1194
AMENDED BY 1401
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON,
AMENDING ORDINANCE 1164 AND TUKWILA MUNICIPAL CODE
14.16.065 IN ORDER TO PROVIDE REDUCED METRO RATES
FOR SENIOR CITIZENS.
CITY OF TUKWILA
WHEREAS, there has been a significant rise in the cost of living
during the last few years which has adversely affected senior citizens who
live on fixed incomes below certain levels, and
WHEREAS, the City of Tukwila is desirous to assist such eligible
persons subject to certain conditions by reduction in the rates charged for
Metro, and
WHEREAS, such reduction in rates is allowed for that portion of
the Metro charge attributable to other than operation and maintenance, i.e.,
Metro debt service and capital by RCW 74.38.070. Of the current Metro monthly
charge of $3798 $4.50, $1.40 is attributable to Metro capital and debt
service costs.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON,
DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Approved as to Form
Section 1. That the following be added to Ordinance 1164 and
Tukwila Municipal Code 14.16.065:
Every person 62 years of age or older (if married, then either
spouse) and every person totally and permanently disabled
residing in a separately metered dwelling and who is paying
directly for such separately billed service either as owner,
purchaser or renter and whose income from all sources is less
than $7,500 per year, if a single person, or a combined income
of husband and wife of $10,000 per year, if a married person,
shall pay the following rate for Metro services to such dwelling.
A flat rate of twe- dell-ars- aed- f }fty- cents 427584 three dollars
and ten cents ($3.10) per month.
Every such person shall file with the Finance Department their
affidavit that he or she is qualified to be charged the special
rate. Such affidavits are to contain information as required
by the Finance Director in order to establish eligibility.
Each affidavit will also include an unqualified promise to inform
the City of any changes in financial condition that would disqualify
the person for the special rates. The Finance Director may
require affidavits on an annual basis if deemed necessary.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UKWILA, WASHINGTON,
