Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information about any of the following items. I. Intergovernmental Update • Sound Cities Association Mayors Meeting: Mayor Ekberg participated in a Sound Cities Association Mayors meeting on March 15. • Governing for Racial Equity and Inclusion Meeting: Mayor Ekberg offered welcoming remarks at a Governing for Racial Equity and Inclusion meeting hosted by the City of Tukwila on March 18. Human Services Program Coordinator Stacy Hansen presented as a panelist during the meeting. • Briefing with Senators Murray and Cantwell: Mayor Ekberg and Councilmember Kruller participated in the Association of Washington Cities Briefing with Senators Murray and Cantwell on March 24. • Meeting with Representative Bergquist: Teens for Tukwila met with State Representative Steve Bergquist on March 24. The Teens continue to meet with and advocate to elected officials at the local, county, and state level. II. Community Events • Community Development staff are working to promote the City's Recycling Program Activities focused on Earth Month. These include: o 2022 Tukwila Recycling Collection Event, April 2, 2022 o Re -Think Waste - Earth Day Video, Photo, Art Contest - Enter by April 8, 2022 o Free Virtual Earth Month Classes - Sustainable Tukwila! More information is on the City's website at https://www.tukwilawa.gov/departments/community-development/recycling-services. • Teen Room and Late Night: The Teen Room has reopened this past week and is seeing consistent use from a few teens. Teen Late Night saw a school year record 65 teens this past Friday. Tukwila City Hall • 6200 Southcenter Boulevard • Tukwila, WA 98188 • 206-433-1800 • Website: TukwilaWA.gov 45 City Administrator's Report March 30, 2022 Page 2 • Teen Open Gym at Showalter Middle School: Teen Open Gym at Showalter Middle School continues to have 20 - 40 teens, both middle and high school students, every day we have the program. • Summer Camp Registration: On April 25 registration for summer camps will open online and in-person for Tukwila Residents. 111. Staff Updates Public Safety • Assistance to Homeless Individual: Officers responded to a man setting up a tent at the metro bus stop at 62nd and Southcenter Blvd. With the co -responder's assistance, officers were able to coordinate space in a shelter for him. Project Updates • 42nd Ave S Bridge Replacement: The City plans to open the 42nd Ave S Bridge to one lane in the southbound direction to allow three exits out of the Allentown Neighborhood. It is estimated that the bridge will open April 05, 2022. The City has received the traffic signs and the traffic contractor has been onsite to start the one-way traffic revision. Design for the 42nd Ave S Bridge Replacement continues and is on schedule to have 30% plans and engineering estimate in mid -2022. The draft type, size, and location (TS&L) has been submitted to the City and was presented to the Council on February 14 and the March 7. Council consensus was given at the March 28 Committee of the Whole meeting to proceed with replacement of the bridge at the current location. Project staff conducted a monthly Allentown meeting at the Tukwila Community Center on March 22 to present the latest findings to the community and receive the initial feedback. Staff continues to compile all the questions/comments to address the concerns of the attendees. Council will continue to have the opportunity to review the draft TS&L and ask any additional questions. Boards, Commissions and Committees • Arts Commission: The next meeting is scheduled for April 27, 2022. 2 Resident position terms expire December 31, 2022. VACANT: 2 resident positions. • Civil Service Commission: The next meeting is scheduled for April 21, 2022. No terms set to expire in 2022. No vacancies. • COPCAB: The next meeting is scheduled for April 14, 2022. 1 Business Representative position term expires December 31, 2022. 1 Resident position term expires December 31, 2022. 1 School District Representative position term expires December 31, 2022. VACANT: 1 Business Collecting Tax Representative and 1 Funded by Tax Representative. • Park Commission: The next meeting is scheduled for April 13, 2022. 2 Community position terms expire December 31, 2022. VACANT: 1 Community Representative and Student Representative. • Planning Commission: The next meeting is scheduled for April 28, 2022. 2 Resident position terms expire December 31, 2022. Responses to Council/Community Inquiries Date of Inquiry Inquiry Response March 7, 2022 Councilmember Sharp requested that the City identify ways to make Council meeting minutes more accessible to the public. Links to meeting minutes are now being sent out with the weekly agenda email. The Legislative Analyst is working on a newsfeed post and Hazelnut article about how to access meeting records including minutes.
