VIIT is a multi-agency team made up of investigators from seven south King County Police Departments (Auburn, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kent, Renton, Port of Seattle, and Tukwila). As this incident involved the Renton Police Department, all RPD staff have been excluded from this VIIT investigation. There are no updates this week, the investigation is complete and pending submittal to the King County Prosecutors Office. Public notifications will be released weekly until the conclusion of the investigation. VIIT is a multi-agency team made up of investigators from seven south King County Police Departments (Auburn, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kent, Renton, Port of Seattle, and Tukwila). As this incident involved the Renton Police Department, all RPD staff have been excluded from this VIIT investigation. On 13 April 2022, at approximately 1128HRS personnel from the Renton Police Dept and the th St for a report of an adult male subject at the location holding a gun. Shortly after arriving on-scene responding units contacted a subject near the bus shelters. During the contact the subject refused to comply with verbal commands given by Officers and produced what appeared to be a firearm from a pocket. Officers on-scene fired their duty weapons striking the subject. Officers on- scene rendered first aid until Fire Department and King County Medic One personnel arrived on- scene. The 24-year-old male was transported to Harborview Medical Center for emergency care. Detectives from the Valley Independent Investigative Team were notified of the incident and responded to the scene and began their investigation. Access to the Park and Ride and traffic in the area were impacted by partial road closures and restricted access to the Park and Ride until approximately 1945HRS.
