Minutes
April 5, 2022 6:30pm Location: Hybrid: TCC Executive Conference Room and via Microsoft Teams
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 6:32pm
1. Roll Call:
a. Board Members: Present: Steve Miller, Cynthia Chesak
Teams: Verna Seal, Marie Parrish, Scott Kruize, Genie Ventura

2. Approval of Agenda and Minutes —
a. Cynthia Chesak motioned to accept the minutes from February 1, 2022 meeting with
correction as noted. Gerie Ventura second the motion, all were in favor.
b. Marie Parrish motioned to approve the agenda. Geri Ventura second the motion, all
were in favor.
3. Public Comment—There were no public comments.
4. Unfinished Business (20 minutes)
a. Open seats status update
i. John Dunn reported that staff posted flyers at the Community Center and
Library. The flyer was sent to Philis Bodle to email out to Tukwila Library users.
No applications have been submitted yet. Cynthia Chesak reached out to the
high school and is working with staff there to find a student representative.
b. Little Libraries update
i. John Dunn reported that the libraries were planned on installation in March but
had to be pushed back to April due to other projects. He will notify the board
once they are installed. There was a discussion on board members adopting
libraries as they are installed.
c. 2022 Goals
i. The board reviewed the goals and would like to do the board report for council
in the fall instead of year end.
d. 2022 Budget
i. The board reviewed the budget and agreed to review it as each meeting to
discuss as projects and initiatives come up throughout the year.
5. New Business (20 minutes)
a. Angie Miraflor, Deputy Director

i. Angie Miraflor gave an overview of her position and responsibilities. She has
been in her position for 5 months now. KCLS has increased hours 18% recently.
Tukwila has open hours on Monday through Saturday. Skyway and Burien
libraries are the closest open on Sundays. All hours and services can vary based
on data and feedback.
b. Cecie Streitman, Interim Director, Library Operations
i. Cecie Streitman gave an overview of her position and responsibilities.
6. Reports (10 minutes)
a. KCLS: In person programming started the week of April 4th. On April 21St, there will be
a virtual poetry reading. May will have an in person reading. Tukwila Library is looking
into bringing back teen programming and working with the city for a Juneteenth
celebration. They are also trying to work with the city and Sullivan Center to host story
time on the grass. Staff have worked hard to support residents virtually during covid.
They are currently hosting 6 different languages for story time and had 200 kids online
for Storytime on April 5th. Tukwila currently hosts 6 language collections including
Somali, Arabic, French, Vietnamese, Hindi and Spanish. They are currently working on
purchasing more large print and audio content. On March 1St, the Governor and his wife
visited the vaccination clinic held at Tukwila.
b. City of Tukwila: Parks & Recreation management is now at full staff, but Kirstin May has
accepted a position with Issaquah. She was with the city for 20 years and used to be the
staff contact with the Library Board. Bridge next to TCC is open now south bound only.
City facilities are transitioning to being open normal business hours now. Teen and
Senior Center is still being discussed and waiting on City Council for siting directions
before moving to potential site plans.

8. Next Meeting: June 7, 2022 (John Dunn will send an email at the end of April to the board to
see if there is a need to meet in May.)
