ORDINANCE NO. 1092 REPEALED By 11 Sa
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA TO AMEND CHAPTER 4,
DEFINITIONS, OF THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE, 1976 EDITION.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. PURPOSE: To bring definitions of "story basement"
and "grade" into consistency with the desires of the community and its com-
prehensive plan, and to aid in the maintenance of the public health and
safety of the citizens of Tukwila.
Section 2. Chapter 4 of the Uniform Building Code is hereby
amended as follows:
A. STORY: Story is that portion of a building included between the
upper surface of any floor and the upper surface of the floor next above, ex-
cept that the topmost story shall be that portion of a building included
between the upper surface of the topmost floor and the ceiling or roof above.
If the finished floor level directly above a basement, cellar or unused under-
floor space is more than 2 feet above grade as defined herein for more than
20 percent of the total perimeter or is more than 12 feet above grade as
defined herein at any point, such basement, cellar, or unused under -floor
space shall be considered as a story.
B. BASEMENT: Basement is that portion of a building between floor
and ceiling, which is partly below and partly above grade (as defined in this

C. GRADE: (Adjacent Ground Elevation) Is the lowest point of
elevation of the finished surface of the ground, paving or sidewalk within the
area between the building and property line, or when the property line is more
than 5 feet from the building, between the building and a line 5 feet from
the building.
Grades that are altered or revised from the original terrain for the
purpose of complying with other provisions of this code will be classified as,.
and measured from original terrain.
Section 3. Copies of this ordinance shall be kept on file in the
Office of the City Clerk.
