While unloading a very large lead/acid storage battery from a semi -trailer, the crew lost •
control of Inc load, dropped the battery from about five feet . Upon the unpact the battey
case broke open. About 15 gallons of sulphuric acid was spilled. Haz/Mat team
members made a level B entry and used 10 bags (500Ibs) of Soda Ash to neutralzie the
acid spill. Numerous PH tests were taken during the operation, and when the Ph was
recored as 7, the area was returned to the owner. Chief Olivas notified them that they must
