FireRMS 5.0 Version: 2.0.25 New Narrative Incident Hickey Matt FFI 1 18:53:22 Thursday, May 11, 2000 At 1446 hours on Thursday May 11, 2000 we were dispatched to a carbon monoxide detector activation. Three units were assigned to this incident. Six personnel responded. We arrived on scene at 1454 hours and cleared at 1454 hours. The incident occurred at 6200 Southcenter Bl, Tukwila in District 003. The general description of this property is police station. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by responding personnel was investigation. No mutual/automatic aid was given or received. Alarm number 0001517 has been assigned to this incident. The employees of the police department bought 2 CO detectors 2 days ago. The detectors had readings of 403 on one placed behind the lobby window, and 375 on the other detector placed near the north entrance of the holding cell. There has been an extensive history of ill personnel and strange odors in this part of the building for the past year or so. We had engine 52 firefighters (1 of them a haz mat team member) enter the building in bunker gear and air packs. This team entered with an air monitor. They sampled the air and documented (see attachment) the readings every 10 feet. CO levels, 02 levels, and LEL levels were monitored. The only notable readings were 1 PPM of CO at each entrance. The air monitor unit used was the MSA 360. It was last calibrated on April 14, 2000. Tukwila fire Department Page: 4 Incident Report 2000-0001517-000 Printed: 05/11/2000 20:14:07 Narratives We advised that the building was safe to enter and occupy. I told the employees to contact the manufacture of the CO monitors to get information on why their monitors were reading high. The documentation for these detectors stated that there are numerous chemicals, hair spray, and perfumes that can dose the detector to read false high readings.
