(no spill or leak). Three amts were assigned to this ncident Five personneresponded.
We arrived on scene at 1443 hours and cleared at 1538 hours. The incident occurred at
600 Minkler B1, Tukwila in District 005. The local station is ST51. The general
description of this property is vehicle storage. The primary task(s) performed at the scene
by responding personnel were material detection, monitoring, sampling, and analysis.
Other special haz mat actions were also taken. No mutual/automatic aid was given or
received.
Alarm number 0003114 has been assigned to this incident.
The Tukwila City Minkler Shops called the fire station to state that they had picked up a
55 gallon drum from along the roadway and brought it to the shops. They now wanted to
know what the drum contained. No imminent hazard from the drum. In the afternoon we
went to the shops and found the drum to be located in the back of a flatbed truck. The
drum had the bungs intact and showed what appeared to be residual used motor oil spilled
on the top of the drum. Called for A-54 to bring HM 52 to this location. Bunkered up on
air with neoprene gloves. Tubed the drum for a visual of contents. Drum was approx. 2/3
to 3/4 full. Liquid appears to be used motor oil with about 1/4 to 1/3 of the contents to be
water. Took a sample and ran a Haz Cat test on it. Shows to be a petroleum product that
had no affect on PH. Advised shops employee that the drum products could be taken to
the George Long shops and disposed of with the waste oil that is picked up at that facility.
The manager there had been previously contacted for disposal and stated that it could be
done even with the water in the drum.
