At 1621 hours on Thursday August 9, 2001 we were dispatched to an oil or other
combustible liquid spill. We arrived on scene at 1621 hours and cleared at 1656 hours.
The incident occurred at 16711 West Valley Hy, Tukwila in District 5. The local station is
ST51. The general description of this property is motor vehicle or boat sales, services,
repair. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by responding personnel was
investigation. No mutual/automatic aid was given or received.
Alarm number 0002668 has been assigned to this incident.
On viewed the in progress clean up of a large diesel spill. Occupant already had
Enviromental clean up company on location using Vac -Truck to remove product from
storm water catch basins. All product had been absorbed with floor dry in parking lot area.
Occupant was using a non approved transfer pump to move diesel from the day tank on a
generator to the above ground storage tank in the yard. The yard tank over
flowed and spilled an estimated 100 to 150 Gallons of diesel on the paved parking area,
extending to the driveway at the North entrance to this facility.
I advised the occupant that all spills have to be reported to the Fire Department
immediatly. I also contacted John Howat with Tukwila Public Works and advised him of
this situation and John was going to follow up on the cleaning of the storm water piping in
the morning.
