E52 was dispatched to a possible Ammonia leak. On arrival one city employee was found
outside the building CIO breathing difficulty. The Pt. had walked into the mechanical
room were the odor was coming from. A54 and E53 was added to the incident. A54 for
patient care, and E53 for manpower. E52 determined that a relief valve that was spraying
domestic water onto the floor of the mechanical room was causing part of the odor. An
antifreeze type solution is placed into the system to prevent corrosion. The gymnasium
floor had just been refinished a few days prior and odor from the refinishing was also
present in the mechanical room. The building was ventilated and city maintenance was to
call for service on the water system.
