At 1611 hours on Friday October 12, 2001 we were dispatched to to assist police with a
"suspiscous package". Three units were assigned to this incident. E-52, HM 52 were
initially dispatched and requested L-54 to assist. Two HM Technicians were on L-54. Five
personnel responded. We arrived on scene at 1619 hours to find an envelope inside a
Tukwila Police unit. The envelope was given to the police officer by a business office that
stated they were not expecting the envelope, nor did they know where it was coming from.
The envelope was a plain white business style with the 3" X 9" with no return address on
it. No one who handled the envelope was feeling any ill affects or symptoms. There was
no prior threat delivered to the business prior to receiving the envelope.
I suited myself and FF M Brooks into Level B splash suits, donned with SCBA's. We
approached the envelope with our APD 2000. We did air monitoring around the envelope
and them carefully opened the envelope. Inside was a bill from I T & T for an
International Fax number registery. No powder or other unusual looking material was
inside. We did air sampling again with the APD 2000, and got a zero reading.
We ended the incident at that time and cleared at 1751 hours. The incident occurred at
6200 Southcenter Bl, Tukwila in District 003. The local station is ST52. The general
description of this property is public or government. The primary task(s) performed at the
scene by responding personnel was investigation. No mutual/automatic aid was given or
received.
