Responded in place of a-51 to a reported gas leaking from a vehicle, four to five gallons on
the ground and the fuel still leaking. I also added HM52 to respond.
On location we found a 1963 Ford T Bird leaking gas from the top of the gas tank. As a
precaution we laid a 1 3/4 attack line. I called E-51 to respond to man the line while we
attended to the leaking gas. I also called a Tom unit to help with fmding the driver/owner.
We placed a catch basin under the leaking tank. Rice hull as was spread under the entire
vehicle. We were about to force the trunk lock when the owner's wife came on scene. She
stated she had just filled the tank of the vehicle. We gained entrance to the trunk to verify
that there was no gas pooling there. We found that the gasket on the fuel tank sending unit
was bad. This caused the leakage of fuel. We pumped out two to three gallons of fuel so
the vehicle driver could take the vehicle home.
After we cleaned up the area, all units returned.
