We arrived on scene at 1658 hours to find a passenger vehicle leaking gasoline into the storm drain. The vehicle was leaking from a failure in the bottom of the tank. The vehicle owner, Amado Lozano, advised he was in a rear -end collision yesterday and believes that was the cause of his gas tank rupture. He also advised he had just filled the gasoline tank in Kent and came straight to work. The fuel gauge reads empty at time of call. It is estimated approx 5-10 gallons spilled at this location and into the storm drain. It was likely not the entire tank due to the fact the vehicle was filled approx 5-7 miles away in Kent, and there is a large leak which would have resulted in a majority of the tank draining on the roadway enroute to work. Per a witness the vehicle was seen driving down the road with a "stream" of gasoline pouring from the vehicle. The flow was stopped with Rice Hull Ash and absorbent pads were used in the storm catch to soak up remaining gas. Other employees advised that the gasoline was washed down prior to our arrival into the Page: 2 Printed: 06/23/2002 18:22:05 Apparatus - E51 Apparatus Action Taken 1 Apparatus Type Personnel 1 Personnel 2 Personnel 3 43 - Hazardous materials spill control and confinement 11 - Engine 1177 - Kronen, Marco Position: FFI Amount 1: $0.00 Amount 2: $0.00 1167 - Dyer, Steven Position: FFI Amount 1: $0.00 Amount 2: $0.00 1159 - Schell, James Position: FFI Amount 1: $0.00 Amount 2: $0.00 Authority Reported By Officer In Charge Reviewer 1177 - Kronen, Marco 18772 - en, a r June 23, 200 r 1177 -Kronen, Marco 18:21:54 Sunday, June 23, 2002 Narratives Narrative Name Narrative Type Narrative Date Author Author Rank Author Assignment Narrative Text New Narrative Incident 18:04:11 Sunday, June 23, 2002 1177 - Kronen, Marco FFI 1 At 1653 hours on Sunday June 23, 2002 we were dispatched to a gasoline spill in the Wendy's arkin 1 t On p g o e umt was assigned to flus incident Three personnel responded . . Due to the unknown quantity and the dilution of the gas with water prior to our arrival, DOE was not contacted. Haz Mat Team Leader was consulted and air monitoring was considered but again, due to the prior dilution by the employees it was not performed. A garden hose was flowed for an additional 10 minutes into the drain to ensure the product was diluted and washed out of the area. We cleared at 1728 hours after advising the driver that he must get the vehicle towed and should not drive or refill the tank. A spill control tub was left under the vehicle to recover the remaining leaking fuel.
