Three um ts were assigned to this incident. Eight personnel responded. We arrived on scene at 2006 hours and cleared at 2315 hours. The incident occurred at 15900 42 Ave S, Tukwila in District 4. The local station is ST54. The general description of this property is residential street, road or residential driveway. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by responding personnel were hazardous materials leak control and containment. Alarm number 0002981 has been assigned to this incident. Natural gas leak, underground service to residence apparently ruptured during sewer installation project in street. Puget Sound Energy requested to make repairs. Gas escaping at a moderate rate, visible plume at times toward the north, switching to southwest late in the incident. Closed 42 Ave S at Southcenter Blvd and S 160 St via TPD and Public Works. Gas company unable to reach leak at location it was being released, therefore dug through the street to reach the tee at the main line. PSE also tested the nearest residence and sewer manholes for gas, none found. E51 took hydrant and stood by with 1 3/4 preconnect for protection of personnel working on leak, and to redirect plume if going in an undesired direction. L54 took command, blocked traffic at S 158 St, assisted E51, A54 released after setting up traffic control. Gas company capped leak at tee, covered hole in street with steel plate, to return following day for restoral of service and repairs to street.
