Narrative Text At 1117 hours on Thursday February 13, 2003 we were dispatched to a diesel spill. Three
units were assigned to this incident. Six personnel responded. We arrived on scene at 1123
hours and cleared at 1208 hours. The incident occurred at 18800 I-5 Fwy S, Tukwila in
District 006. The local station is ST51. The general description of this property is highway
or divided highway. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by responding personnel
were hazardous materials spill control and confinement. No mutual/automatic aid was
given or received.
Alarm number 0000480 has been assigned to this incident.
A semi with approximately 100 gallons in the driver's side saddle tank while driving down
the freeway ran over a mud -flap frame which punctured the tank. Prior to Engine 51
arrival it had spilled on the ground approx. 30 gallons. We plugged the tank with pig putty
and used the 70 gallon pool to collect approx. 40 gallons and applied 2 bags rice -hull ash
to the ground. DOT arrived, pumped out the pool and the remaining fuel in the tank. We
left the pool with DOT and returned in service. DOT notified DOE.
