McCoy, Michael LT 1 At 0857 hours on Wednesday July 9, 2003 we were dispatched to a chemical spill/leak. Three units were assigned to this incident. Eight personnel responded. We arrived on scene at 0859 hours and cleared at 1352 hours. The incident occurred at 290 Andover Park E, Tukwila in District 005. The local station is ST51. The general description of this property is street or road in commercial area. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by responding personnel was investigation. Other special haz mat actions were also taken. No mutual/automatic aid was given or received. E51 & B51 dispatched to haz/mat call Andover park E & Strander blvd. Upon E51 arrival we found an industral type Battery on ifs side in the roadway. The battery weighed 1680 lbs per the lable on the steel box. I contacted Battery service ctr in Denver to find out the capacity of the battery they stated if it was full there would be about 24 gallons of liquid. We est about 2 gallons of liguid spill on the ground. We applied soda ash to the spill. The PH on the liquid was 0 after the soada ash was applied the PH was 10.B51 contacted DOE and handled the clean up. We used a city back hoe to transport the battery to staion 51 were it was picked up by Phillips. We stayed on location and assisted with water & power for Phillips & DOE. Alarm number 0002186 has been assigned to this incident.
