At 1930 hours on Tuesday September 23, 2003 we were dispatched to a gasoline spill via
telephone from B51. One unit was assigned to this incident. Three personnel responded.
We arrived on scene at 1930 hours and met with the driver of the vehicle who advised he
accidentally filled the wrong tank of his pick us truck that he knew had a leak. He had
already attempted to contain the leak with three different containers, but could no longer
handle the amount.
After dissing option with the Drvier of the vehilce and B51, the driver agreed to allow us
pump the gasoline from the leaking tank and off load into a co-workers vehicle. With the
approval of the driver we disconected the elbow attached to the gasoline tank to allow
insertion of the pump hose. The hose would not pass the sharp bend in the fuel fill neck.
The fuel was pumped until the leak stopped. The elbow was reattached to prevent any
splashing of gasoline while being driven.
The driver was advised to have the tank and fill elbows inspected and fixed prior to using
the tank. He agreed and rice hull ash was spread under the vehicle to catch any dripping
fuel that might leak.
The excess contaminted fuel was overpacked and taken to st. 51 for disposal.
