Narrative Text At 1303 hours on Tuesday November 16, 2004 we were dispatched to a chemical
spill/leak. Eight units were assigned to this incident. Fourteen personnel responded. We
arrived on scene at 1309 hours and cleared at 1608 hours. The incident occurred at 1185
ANDOVER Park W, TUKWILLA in District 006. The local station is 51. The general
description of this property is general retail. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by
responding personnel were to identify and analyze hazardous materials. Other special haz
mat actions were also taken. Mutual aid was received on this incident.
Alarm number 0403812 has been assigned to this incident.
Marshal 51 first to arrive on location. He made contact with employees who told him that
they had been cleaning up a liquid spill that they thought was deck cleaner. Fumes started
to get strong and they called 911. Marshal 51 confirmed the spill and evacuated the store
of employees and shoppers. B-51 arrived, tied in, and set up command. Lt. McFarland led
in a recon team. Opened up front and rear roll up door for ventilation. Had to use bolt
cutters on locks on the doors. Checked PH of spilled material and found it to be 2. An
undamaged bottle of the sulfuric acid had been brought outside to read labels.
Concentrated drain cleaner. Material in bottle has a PH of 0. Command determines that a
lever A entry is required. Call in HazMat 51 and E-76 with HazMat 76. Two person entry
