At 1726 hours on Wednesday February 23, 2005 we were dispatched to an oil or other
combustible liquid spill. Two units were assigned to this incident. Four personnel
responded. We arrived on scene at 1731 hours and cleared at 1805 hours. The incident
occurred at 12100 EAST MARGINAL Way S, TUKWILA in District 0007. The local
station is 53. The general description of this property is vehicle parking area. The primary
task(s) performed at the scene by responding personnel was investigation. No
mutual/automatic aid was given or received.
Alarm number 0500624 has been assigned to this incident. We were dispatched to a 20 to
30 gallon diesel spill with unknown amount into drain systems. Upon arrival and a face to
face with facility environmentalist, and safety officer it was determined that they couldn't
determine how many gallons had been lost or how many gallons had gone into the drain
system. The closest estimation from on site metro personnel was around 100 gallons
spilled. The safety officer and FF Codenys checked all the storm drains and found product
in three of them at the time of our investigation there was no product in the holding pond
which the storm drains drain into. All product was believed to have been contained to the
drain system on site with no contamination to the river or Metro sewer. State and County
Enviromental depts had been contacted prior to our arrival and a private enviromental
contrator was enroute to determine contamination to ground soil and the environment. A
final sumary will be done by the safety officer and forwarded to this Dept. We reeturned
after determining that they had cleaned up 70 % of the spill and that the leak had been
found and stopped. The cause of the spill was a blown gasket from the pressure manifold
to the dispensing system for the metro transit. All detection and alarm systems functioned
properly and mitigation was started with in minutes of the spill be noticed.
