Narrative Text At 2030 hours on Friday April 15, 2005 we were dispatched to a gas leak. Four units were
assigned to this incident. Eight personnel responded. We arrived on scene at 2035 hours
and cleared at 2137 hours. The incident occurred at 12720 GATEWAY Dr, Tukwila in
District 001. The local station is 53. The general description of this property is adult
education center, college classroom. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by
responding personnel was investigation. Other special haz mat actions were also taken.
Automatic aid was received on this incident.
Alarm number 0501204 has been assigned to this incident.
E53, E54, A19 dispatched to a reported smell of gas outside a structure. B51 added
himself to the call and cancelled A19.
E53 arrived to find a 200 by 300 2 story concrete tilt up building not evacuated
investigating. E53 investigated and found a small leak of natural gas, downstream from
the meter into the building. This was a 1 1/2 inch line. PSE was added to the call. A micro
max monitor found readings indicating 14 % of the lel. E53 secured the gas and had the
building evacuated and awaited for PSE to arrive. PSE arrived and E53 tied in with PSE
advising them of where the problem could be found. E53 assisted PSE with investigation.
E53 found a gas leak in a line entering the building through a concrete wall due to rust and
corrosion. The rust and corrosion were due to the pipe being exposed to the elements and
having the insulation hold the water against the pipe.
E53 investigated, performed air monitoring, assisted PSE with investigation. Gas secured
to building, PSE Red tagged meter and consulted with ITT Dean with instructions on how
to proceed to get the piping fixed. E53 returned in service.
