at the scene by responding personnel were to identify and analyze hazardous materials. No
mutual/automatic aid was given or received.
Alarm number 0502492 has been assigned to this incident.
Dispatched to a reported vehicle leaking gasoline from the gas tank. Upon arrival found a
Toyota pickup parked on the left hand shoulder with gasoline running from under the
vehicle and onto the HOV lane. Before we could collect any fuel the tank ran dry. Spread
some absorbant to stop the gasoline from spreading further.
Driver states that he had merged onto I-5 from SR 599 and there had been a piece of steel
rod in the roadway that flipped up and hit under the vehicle. This had punctured a hole in
the fuel tank. State DOT emergency response worker called for a tow.
Since the temperature was above 85 the spilled fuel was evaporating quickly and within
then minutes we opened up the HOV lane to travel.
E-51 responding to #05-2493.
