At 0606 hours on Friday July 22, 2005 we were dispatched to a gas leak. Four units were
assigned to this incident. Seven personnel responded. We arrived on scene at 0612 hours
and cleared at 0646 hours. The incident occurred at 17501 Southcenter Pky, TUKWILA in
District 006. The local station is 51. The general description of this property is street. The
primary task(s) performed at the scene by responding personnel were to identify and
analyze hazardous materials. Other special haz mat actions were also taken. Automatic aid
was received on this incident.
Alarm number 0502500 has been assigned to this incident.
Reported as garbage truck hit a gas meter and gas is now flowing. Upon arrival could
smell gas from 500 feet away. At the rear of the building we could see the rear of the
garbage truck and could hear clearly the sound of gas flowing. Driver met us and reported
that he had hit the meter and broke a part of it. Packed up and went to recon. Found that
there was a 1/4 turn valve just above the ground level and that above this a pressure
regulator had been broken off. Turned off the supply and the leak was stopped.
B-51 had E-52 take combustalbe readings in the occupancy and it was found to be all
clear. PSE arrived and they went to work on making repairs.
All Tukwila units in service- returning.
