Narratives
The estimated property value was $500. The estimated content value was $15.
Alarm number 0504330 has been assigned to this incident.
Large area propane heater caught fire in its propane preheater, which was 20 feet outside
the occupancy. On site engineer closed approriate valves and used three dry chem
extinguishers to extinguish fire at preheater. There was a small (6") flame that continued
to burn residual propane in the line - no exposure was threatened.
B51 arrived and established command. E52 extended a precautionary 1 3/4" line and
charged it. E52 investigated and tied in with B51 and the on site engineer. E52 used the
Micromax to sample the atmosphere, finding nothing.
B51 and E52 stood by until the propane heater vendor arrived and took responsibility for
the scene.

Narrative Text At 1123 hours on Monday December 5, 2005 we were dispatched to a building fire. Two
units were assigned to this incident. Four personnel responded. We arrived on scene at
1130 hours and cleared at 1225 hours. The incident occurred at 17200 Southcenter Pky,
Tukwila in District 006. The local station is 51. The general description of this property is
post office or mailing firms. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by responding
personnel was investigation. No mutual/automatic aid was given or received.
The involved structure is described as an enclosed building. The building was occupied
and operating. "Shipping/receiving area; loading area, dock" best describes the primary
use of the room or space where the fire originated. The fire occurred on the first floor. The
fire was confined to the object of origin. "Spark, ember or flame from operating
equipment" best describes the heat source that caused the ignition. Failure of equipment or
heat source caused the ignition. The material first ignited was "LP gas". The use, or
purpose of the material that was first ignited was "flammable liquid/gas - in/from engine or
burner".
E 52 dispatched to SPILL of propane gas, up to 5 gallons. B51 added himself to the call.
E52 & B51 arrived to find an outside propane gas heater that was designed to heat the
interior of a warehouse. According to the engineer on site, Don Hamel, US Postal Service,
the propane warming unit flashed and briefly caught fire. Hamel shut off all fuel sources
to the warming unit, but the line had up to 5 gallons of residual propane that were slowly
burning off at the heater (not warming unit) at the end of the propane line.
E52 extended an 1 3/4" precautionary wet line and monitored the atmosphere with the
Micromax. B51 provided command supervision. When the vendor/engineer that had
installed the heater arrived, E52 & B51 returned in service.
