One unit was assigned to this incident. Four personnel responded. We arrived on scene at 0739 hours and cleared at 0805 hours. The incident occurred at 13138 INTERURBAN Ave S, Tukwila in District 001. The local station is 53. The general description of this property is service station, gas station. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by responding personnel was investigation. No mutual/automatic aid was given or received. "Highway, parking lot, street: on or near" best describes the primary use of the room or space where the fire originated. "Backfire from internal combustion engine" best describes the heat source that caused the ignition. The cause of ignition was unintentional. A mental disability possibly contributed to the ignition of this fire. The material first ignited was "leather". The use, or purpose of the material that was first ignited was "luggage". "Flammable liquid or gas spilled" contributed to the ignition of the fire. The estimated property loss on this incident was $200. The estimated property value was $200. Alarm number 0601968 has been assigned to this incident. Dispatched to motorcycle fire. On location found no fire. Rider near bike. He was transporting gallon plastic gas cans in his saddlebags for a car at a friends house. His battery died and he needed a jump. He got someone to help him out. Cables had been connected and he attempted to start his bike. When he went up to access his battery, he had to move his saddlebags. He left the right side clipped on, unclipped the left and swung the bags to the ground on the right side. He then took off the seat to access the battery. When he attempted to start the bike, he said he thought it was flooded as it wouldn't start. Next thing he knows, his bags are on fire. He disconnects the right side and flings them about 15 feet away in the parking lot. Someone uses a dry chem to put out the fire. He estimated the fire was 3-4 feet high. Investigation: He is a smoker yet strongly denied smoking during this operation. I took the other plastic gas can and held it upside down. After about 10 seconds it began to drip. The location of the bags was right in line with the exhaust. I think the exhaust either threw a spark or flashed, which ignited the fumes from the leaking plastic gas cans that were not sitting flat. The motorcycle was not damaged by flame. This individual's home has been visited by us for having 55 gallon drums of methanol on site, said to be for mining.
