At 1805 hours on Thursday January 11, 2007 we were dispatched to a carbon monoxide
incident. Three units were assigned to this incident. Seven personnel responded. We
arrived on scene at 1811 hours and cleared at 1848 hours. The incident occurred at 225
Andover Park W, Tukwila in District 004. The local station is 51. The general description
of this property is post office or mailing firms. The primary task(s) performed at the scene
by responding personnel was investigation. Other special haz mat actions were also taken.
No mutual/automatic aid was given or received.
Alarm number 0700130 has been assigned to this incident.
E51 arrived to find Postal Employees complaining of some type of odor. No odor was
detected, but the Micromax picked up 40 ppm of CO inside of the building.
All employees were asked if they would like medical attention and all said they were o.k.
All employees left the building except the person in charge. He stayed to assist with the
technician once the building was cleared.
The gas was shut down to the building and the furnace was shut down both at the panel
and at the furnace. The building was then ventilated with PPV then the windows were left
open which created a natural draft from N to S. The CO was checked again and it was no
higher than 21 in the entire building.
The building was then turned over to the PIC and the maintenance person. It was advised
to them if they could not get the furnace working that night that they should place some
portable heaters in the building due to the forcast of extremely low temperatures.
Battalion 51 remained on scene to monitor the call. It was determined that no command
needed to be set up.
