Narrative Text On 08/05/2007 at 1537 hrs, Engines 51 and 52 were dispatched to an OUTSIDE
NATURAL GAS LEAK, located at 15901 W Valley Hwy (Best Western Hotel).
While en route we were advised that a gues had smelled natural gas on the south side
exterior of the hotel, in the vicinity of the gas meter/ldtchen.
On arrival, E51 conducted recon (full PPE with SCBA in standby position) with a four gas
detector. E52 stood by the nearest hydrant on W Valley Hwy.
No gases or vapors were detected on the exterior of the hotel or in either level of the
kitchens. A hotel guest stated that he had observed the gas meter venting a small amount
of gas earlier in the day - he stated that he had experience with gas meters and it appeared
to be working properly (venting excess pressure as designed). No damage was observed to
the gas meter.
E51 conferred with hotel management, briefed them of our findings and suspicions as to
the cause of the odor (meter venting excess pressure). If there was an additional report of
odor or release to call us back immediately.
E51 and E52 then cleared the scene (no further action required).
