Alarm number 0801361 has been assigned to this incident.
Dispatched to a strong odor of gas inside the business 12602 Interurban Av S. Thought to
be coming from Suburban Propane at 12642 Interurban Av S. E-52 went to Suburban
Propane first and asked employee in office if they had a release or leak this morning. They
stated that there had no been. Went to the affected business and found several employees
outside or at the rear door. Employee met be and was very upset about the leak. He stated
that it was coming from Suburban Propane and pointed to the sound of a leak. There was
defmitely the sound of a leak and the odor was strong in the air. A twenty mile per hour
wind was blowing from the SW and bringing the product directly into the rear of the
Darigold business. Advised L-54 that the leak was in the NE corner of the yard. Capt
Beckman came to this area and immediately found an open valve on a tank among several
other tanks. He shut down the valve and the leak was stopped. The odor outside went
away almost immediately. Went to Darigold and found that they had the rear and front
doors open. The wind was quickly ventilating their occupancy. The micromax was used
to air monitoring and no readings were ever detected. Employee at Darigold wanted to file
a compaint and I avised him to call Puget Sound Air Pollution Control and make a
complaint with them. BC Fehr called for an inspector to respond to Suburban Propane and
I-512 was enroute. I-512 arrived and explained to him what, where and how had
happened. He went to talk with the manager of Suburban Propane and all other Tukwila
units returned.
