Six units were assigned to this incident. Five personnel responded. We arrived on scene at 1333 hours and cleared at 1643 hours. The incident occurred at 25316 101 Ave SE, Kent in District O/J. The local station is 51. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by responding personnel were hazardous materials spill control and confinement. Other special haz mat actions were also taken. Mutual aid was given on this incident. Alarm number 0804152 has been assigned to this incident. HM51 was requested to assist with L74 and B71 since HM76 was unavailable. The incident was in the mechanical room at a pool where a hose came off and muriatic acid spilled on the ground in the room and flowed out the door on to the sidewalk. There appeared to be a total of no more than one gallon spilled. When Tukwila units arrived, the spill was no longer active, so we focused on the clean-up of the product on the ground. The plan was to use acid absorbing pads to soak up as much of the product as possible. Bicarbonate soda was then used to neutralize the remaining product before it was all overpacked. A vacuum truck was then used along with a hose to wash the entire area down. Since the pool was on Kent city property, a city of Kent vacuum truck was used. FF Brooks and FF Lindsey were the entry team and Level B suits were chosen as the Page: 4 Printed: 10/31/2008 09:31:58 Incident Report 2008-0804152 -000 Tukwila Fire Department Narratives appropriate PPE. Kent L74 personnel were used as the standby team in Bunker gear and SCBA's. FF Williams had a hose line for emergency decon if necessary. BC Grisham contacted Boeing Hazmat 80 to run the plan by Captain Wernet, which was approved. The mitigation was successful and Ph strips were used after the clean-up to determine the area was ph neutral. This included the entire room, the product vessels and the area outside of the room. The materials left at the scene were a 22 gallon overpack drum and 15-20 acid absorbent pads. The level B suits were cleaned and will be placed back in service.
