Narrative Text At 1319 hours on Thursday February 5, 2009 we were dispatched to a hazmat release
investigation with no hazmat. One unit was assigned to this incident. Three personnel
responded. We arrived on scene at 1322 hours and cleared at 1445 hours. The incident
occurred at 20208 72 Ave S, Kent in District O/J. The local station is 51. The primary
task(s) performed at the scene by responding personnel was investigation. Mutual aid was
given on this incident.
Alarm number 0900427 has been assigned to this incident.
E51 was dispatched to the smell of natural gas inside a building. E51 responded to find
Kent E76 already on scene and ready to enter the building to investigate. E76 assigned
E51 to be "RIT," and entered the building as E51 approached their entry point.
When E76 reported no gas readings, E51 officer did a recon of the building exterior to
locate gas meters. E51 officer also gathered additional information from building
occupants. E51 determined that the smell was a hydrogen sulfide/"rotten eggs" smell,

rather than a mercaptin smell.
E76 then disbanded RIT, and E51 crew joined E51 officer at the gas meters on Side A.
E51 did a face-to-face with E76, and was subsequently put in service.
E51 returned in ser vice.
