cycles, several tires and numerous other combustible items.
L54 made contact with the building owner who lives in the same building. He stated the

The building owner stated he had no way of getting into those units because at this time he
had no keys. L54 asked to speak with the renter of the garages and proceeded to the other
building. The renter of the garage was not at home at this time.
L54 told the building owner to have the material removed form the stair tower and if there
was storage of flammable liquids to have that also remove from the garages. L54 gave a
time line of four hours to complete this.
L54 left the scene and returned to quarters. One hour later L54 got a request to return to
the scene and meet again with the reporting party.
On arrival, L54 witness a pick up with 4-6 blue plastic 45-55ga1 containers and some
additional containers of various sizes leaving the scene. The truck did not slow down as
they left the scene and had several cars following it..
L54 again met with the complaining party and was told the tenet renting the garages had
shown up almost immediately after L54 Left the scene the first time. L54 told the
complaining party that the renter had been given 4 hours to correct the problem and that
we would be back to check. L54 then again Left the scene. All information was relayed to
B51.
On returning to the scene for the third time, L54 and B51 met with the renter of the
garages and the building owner. L54 inspected the stair hallway and found everything
removed. L54 then again told the build owner why this area must be kept clean and the
safety concerns of the department.
L54 inspected the garages and found no flammables in the garages but did find several
tools and equipment, I.E. arch welders and car parts. In addition there were three other
people that were working on things in the garages. L54 told the renter that this garage
could not be used as a business. The renter stated that he was just working on his own car.
L54 then again stated that the appearance was that there was a business work out of these
garages and that this information would be passed on to Fire Prevention and the city's
code enforcement. L54 advise the renter that if this is and business running out of the
garages it must stop.
The renter assured L54 that there was no business working out of the garages.
L54 also told the building owner and renter that parking garages for R2 occupancies
cannot be used as business and are for storage of tenant motor vehicles .
L54 thank the owner and renter for there cooperation on removing the hazards and went in
service and returned to quarters.
This information has been passed on to Fire Prevention.
Alarm number 0902652 has been assigned to this incident.
