Three units were assigned to this incident. Seven personnel responded. We arrived on scene at 1505 hours and cleared at 1532 hours. The incident occurred at 12610 Interurban Ave S, Tukwila in District 001. The local station is 53. The general description of this property is flammable liquid distribution, pipeline. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by responding personnel was investigation. Other special haz mat actions were also taken. No mutual/automatic aid was given or received. HIPL-107 Alarm number 0904037 has been assigned to this incident. TFD units dispatched to a NGASXT at an occupancy adjacent to a propane distribution yard. TFD units investigated to find a strong odor of mercaptin, and that an employee had been draining propane tanks as he prepared them to be scrapped. He said that he had caused the release of mercaptin, and that this was a normal part of draining the tanks. After consultation with Trng51, he decided that he would stop draining the propane tanks today, and that he would talk to his employer about the problem. TFD units returned in service. A copy of this report will be forwarded to Fire Prevention. Note: the mercaptin smell was so strong that it caused a second call several hours later, #0904041.
