Author Assignment 1
Narrative Text At 0505 hours on Tuesday December 22, 2009 we were dispatched to a gasoline or other
flammable liquid spill. Six units were assigned to this incident. Ten personnel responded.
We arrived on scene at 0512 hours and cleared at 0611 hours. The incident occurred at
15451 53 Ave S, Tukwila in District 004. The local station is 52. The general description
of this property is hotel/motel, commercial. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by
responding personnel were hazardous materials leak control and containment. Other
special hoz mat actions were also taken. Automatic aid was received on this incident.
Alarm number 0904707 has been assigned to this incident.
L54 responded to a possible natural gas leak inside a structure at the Extended Stay
America hotel, 15451 53rd Ave S, Tukwila, WA. Upon arrival, L54 was met by the
occupants of room 221 who stated they smelled a strong odor of natural gas outside their
hotel room. Upon investigation, L54 found a strong smell of gasoline on the ground level
outside of room 221. L54 used the micro max to check the atmosphere inside room 221
and all readings were normal, with no alarms. L54 then investigated the gasoline smell
and found a 1998 Cadillac that was leaking gasoline near it's fuel tank. The fuel was
flowing at a slow rate onto the ground and toward a storm drain. L54 used absorbent pads
and amerizorb to keep the gasoline from flowing into the drain. While containing the leak,
a male came outside and talked to L54 and told us he knew the owner of the Cadillac and
that the owner had just had the car worked on, which included changing the fuel pump and
fuel filter. I asked the male to have the owner come out and talk to L54, the male agreed,
but L54 never saw the male or the owner of the vehicle.
B51 contacted Fire 3 with the Cadillac's license plate number to try and fmd the owner.
The registered owner is Kevin Jimerson, with an address on 87th Ave in Seattle, WA. L54
checked the registered guests of the hotel, but the registered owner or vehicle were not
registered at the hotel. L54 then called for Tukwila PD to come to the scene. Upon TPD's
arrival, we relayed the information we had to the officer and returned in service.
Later in the morning, L54 & B51 returned to the scene and found the Cadillac gone. The
male we talked to earlier at the scene stated the owner had the car towed back to the shop
where the work had been done. L54 then used an air monitor from the Hoz Mat team to
check the storm drains in the parking lot and downhill from the incident site. All readings
were normal with no alarms. L54 returned in service. cw.
