Narrative Text At 0631 hours on Tuesday January 11, 2011 we were dispatched to a chemical spill/leak.
Twelve units were assigned to this incident. Five personnel responded. We arrived on
scene at 0640 hours and cleared at 1152 hours. The incident occurred at 621 N
RAILROAD Ave, Kent in District O/J. The local station is 51. The general description of
this property is refrigerated storage. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by
responding personnel were hazardous materials leak control and containment. Other
special haz mat actions were also taken. Mutual aid was given on this incident.
Alarm number 1100118 has been assigned to this incident.
HM 51 responded as part of a Zone 3 response to Kent to assist with a Hazardous
Materials release. Upon arrival, HM 51 was requested to pull forward, park next to HM
76 and prepare the Entry Link Camera for the entry team. I was then tasked to be Hazmat
Group Supervisor's Aid.
While Nichols and Johnson set up the camera, I donned a vest and started working on my
check -off sheets. Captain Bob Kelley was Group Supervisor. Throughout the call, I
assisted him. There were two level A entries made to secure a valve on the outside of the
building as well as check for product on the inside of the building. Annhydrous Ammonia
was the product. The leak was the result of somebody tampering with system for possible
theft.
All documentation was given to Captain Kelley, who will do the fmal report.
HM 51 was returned to in-service status following the call.
