Narrative Text At 0803 hours on Thursday February 17, 2011 we were dispatched to a gas leak. Seven
units were assigned to this incident. Ten personnel responded. We arrived on scene at
0808 hours and cleared at 0904 hours. The incident occurred at 1150 Southcenter Mall,
Tukwila in District 004. The local station is 51. The general description of this property is
eating, drinking places. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by responding
personnel was investigation. Automatic aid was received on this incident.
Alarm number 1100552 has been assigned to this incident.
Units were dispatched to a NGASIN in a mall corridor. E51 arrived first, and noticed a
moderately strong smell of natural gas in the corridor. E51 contacted a mall occupant,
who stated that this was a "normal" smell at this time of the morning. E51 reported back
to B51, who had taken command.

B51 then assigned E51 and E52 to take gas monitors to investigate the corridor. Monitor
readings were zero/normal. E51 also made contact with off-duty TFD fire fighter Rodal,
who was walking the mall. FF Rodal stated that this was a "normal" smell for this area of
the mall at this time of the morning. A mall security Sgt. confirmed this. At this point in
the event, mutual aid apparatuses were returned in service.
E52 then located the gas meter that serviced the Racha Thai restaurant that was right next
to the corridor, and was suspected of being the source of the odor. E51 used a keybox key
to enter the Racha Thai, and immediately noticed a stronger odor. There were no
detectible levels of natural gas.
E51 contacted dispatch and requested PSE to proceed to the scene. E52 returned in
service. A mall manager also made contact with E51 at that time. PSE arrived and
investigated to fmd a large number of pilot lights out in the Racha Thai kitchen. He
successfully lit many of the pilot lights, but could not light all of them. He said that the
restaurant needed to replace the faulty pilot light assemblies. The mall manager stated that
he (the manager) would make sure that the restaurant took care of the problem today. The
PSE person provided the mall manager with a printed report of the investigation.
E51 relocked the restaurant, and returned in service.
