One dry chemical fire extinguisher was used to extinguish the fire. The fire did not extend outside the ventilation hood. There were no injuries associated with this event. A worker had been heating a solution of oil and an unknown solvent in a laboratory flask on a hot plate/heater unit when the explosion and fire occurred.
