At 1047 hours on Thursday March 22, 2012 we were dispatched to a gas leak. Six units
were assigned to this incident. Eight personnel responded. We arrived on scene at 1053
hours and cleared at 1112 hours. The incident occurred at 12614 INTERURBAN Ave S,
Tukwila in District 001. The local station is 53. The general description of this property is
professional supplies, services. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by responding
personnel was investigation. Automatic aid was received on this incident.
Alarm number 1200991 has been assigned to this incident.
Full first alarm assignment dispatched to natural gas leak inside a warehouse. Units
dispatched included E53, E22, E47, L54, A28, B51. Short report included a line had been
hit inside the warehouse with no odor present or leaking sound heard. Upon e53 arriving,
we were met by Mr. Maji who led us to the end of the warehouse where the incident was
located. He confirmed there was no known leak, but a broken pipe.
E53 went interior to assess the break. I sent my driver to see if there was flow at the meter.
We found no odor. I downgraded the response to yellow at that time. Upon seeing the
break and where it was, I deemed the situation under control and code greened all other
units. A man lift had struck the pipe leading into a ceiling heater breaking a pipe
downstream from a control valve next to the unit. Workers had also shut off a valve 4 feet
upstream, although they smelled no gas when they were up there. The pipes in the ceiling
had gotten twisted and there was a concern of the occupants that there could be a slow leak
with connections being moved.
B51 arrived and supplied us with his gas detector as ours was out of service. We put it up
to the ceiling with no flammable gas readings. There were CO readings into the 50s in the
warehouse in gerneral, likely due to the forklifts operating. With no gas readings found, I
suggested they get the gas company out with their sniffers and they can check the othere
connections and confirm no leaks. Mr. Maji advised he had already done that.
B51 and E53 cleared the scene. KB
