it the connection valve to the barbeque was melted on to the tank. He pulled the entire
tank out causing the melted hose to break and leaving the regulator attached to the tank.
E53 arrived to find the briquets still burning in the barbeque and the tank sitting in the
middle of the back yard. The tank appeared to be dark on top, hot, and leaking a small
amount of propane. E53 applied water from a hose to the tank for five minutes to cool it.
This did not stop the leak. Further exam found that the tank was leaking from the threads
around the stem and was compromised. E53 extinguished the barbeque, evacuated the
residents, and continued to apply water. There was enough wind to disperse the amount of
propane leaking. E53 stood by until the tank stopped leaking about an hour and a half
later.
Contact was made with B51 and FM51 by phone. The tank was taken by B51 to Station
51 to be examined by the Fire Marshal's office.
