unit was assigned to this incident. Three personnel responded. We arrived on scene at
1642 hours and cleared at 1707 hours. The incident occurred at 709 Industry Dr, Tukwila
in District 005. The local station is 51. The general description of this property is
manufacturing, processing. No mutual/automatic aid was given or received.
Alarm number 1304638 has been assigned to this incident.
E5 1 responded to an odor investigation because an occupant was concerned about toxic
fumes inside her business. The occupant in A & D Ceramic and Doll Supply, Susan
Thompson has had an ongoing problem of fumes entering her business ever since T-shirt
business moved in next door. The T- shirt business, The Green Shirt Project, moved in
early December and has had contact with the reporting party. The owner of the T-shirt
company, Brian Morales, Ms Thompson and the landlord have been trying to solve the
problem with little success.
The reporting party called because she wanted confirmation that fumes were not toxic.
She has complained of headaches and nausea when exposed to fumes from next door.
E51 monitored both businesses with our 5 gas monitor and detected no hazardous
conditions. E51 crew did smell an odor that was described. E51 also looked at the
products being used for the T-shirt production and observed that all products were being
used per manufacture directions. The heater in the T-shirt company also had an exhaust
fan that was operating properly as well.
There were no hits on 5 gas monitor but smell was observed.
Ms. Thompson closed her business at the usual time and was leaving as E51 was returning
in service. The Green Shirt Project continued making shirts. The Green Shirt Project
stated they try to produce shirts when the doll company was not open. I contacted both
parties after talking with the Fire Marshall as follow up would be needed. They would be
contacted next week or the following by fire prevention.
A copy of this report has been forwarded to the Fire Marshall.
