Three units were assigned to this incident. Seven personnel responded. We arrived on scene at 0559 hours and cleared at 0702 hours. The incident occurred at 18340 Southcenter Pky, Tukwila in District 006. The local station is 51. The general description of this property is warehouse. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by responding personnel was investigation. Other special haz mat actions were also taken. No mutual/automatic aid was given or received. Page: 3 Printed: 02/05/2014 18:07:58 Incident Report 2014-1400442 -000 Tukwila Fire Department Narratives Alarm number 1400442 has been assigned to this incident. E51, L54 and B51 responded to a natural gas leak, outside of 18340 Southcenter Parkway. Upon arrival, E51 was met by an employee of the business at the incident and address and told by the rp that he heard a hissing sound and smelled natural gas on the east side of his business. The rp tried to get close to the gas meter and wasn't able to get closer than 50', due to the amount of natural gas flowing. E51 requested Puget Sound Energy to the scene. E51 established Southcenter Parkway command on the south end of the incident location and added B51 to the call. E51 blocked access to the street south of the incident building on Segale Park Drive C. L54 blocked street access at Southcenter Parkway and Segale Park Drive C. A technician from PSE arrived and did a recon of the area around the meter and found that a pressure relief valve had broken and was allowing the natural gas to escape. The technician stated a different PSE crew was needed to secure the meter and he contacted them through his dispatch. The technician then entered the building and the business of the rp, in order to monitor for gas in the building. After exiting the building, the technician stated gas was getting into the building and that he needed to shut off the meter before the other PSE crew arrived. The gas meter was shut off by the technician, but he was unable to service the meter, until the other crew arrived. The PSE technician again checked the inside of the building for gas and found none. B51 and a representative from the building owner stressed to the technician that the gas needed to be restored as quickly as possible due to the low outside temperature and lack of heat in the buildings due to the gas being shut off. L54, B51 and E51 returned in service. cw.
