Narrative Text At 2326 hours on Tuesday July 29, 2014 we were dispatched to a gas leak. Seven units
were assigned to this incident. Eleven personnel responded. We arrived on scene at 2330
hours and cleared at 0019 hours. The incident occurred at 16401 W Valley Hwy, Tukwila
in District 005. The local station is 51. The general description of this property is
restaurant or cafeteria. The primary task(s) performed at the scene by responding
personnel was investigation. Other special hoz mat actions were also taken. Automatic aid
was received on this incident.
Alarm number 1402927 has been assigned to this incident.
E51 was in a full commercial alarm dispatched to a natural gas leak in a vacant restaurant.
Puget Sound Energy was called to investigate the smell of natural gas by the owner of the
building who stated in the request to PSE that he would not be on site when they arrived.
The PSE employee arrived and found the door locked. He checked the gas meter and said
that it was spinning like crazy, flowing lots of gas. He shut it down. When E51 arrived, we
found him out front. We went to the front door and found the double doors were
deadbolted, but the verticle latches on the left side were not out, so the doors pulled open.
He used his gas meter as we walked around checking. We went into the kitchen and found
where a valved line had been broken off the main branch coming in from the meter. All
other lines were shut off. PSE locked the meter off on both sides of the meter. We were
unable to secure the building, we had TPD standby until the tenant was able to return to
secure it. KB
