Requested Wash. Natural Gas response. Employees state" odor is "normal" and routinely occurs during winter when paint booth heaters are operating. Also stated there have .been employee complaints, but investigations. showed no harmful atmosphere. WNG arrived, tested booth,. confirmed odorof mercaptan, no. -explosive amounts of gas indicated on meter. Checked rooftop heat system, found that there is no heat exchanger (by design), and all products of combustion of natural"gas are drawn into, booth where employees work without purified breathing. air (although dust respirators are worn). - WNG representative felt that system was'operating incorrectly; and that unburned gas was being drawn into system. Checked for CO in booth, level read 10 to 15 ppm, not a critical level. However, odor still a concern, equipment- not designed or operating -correctly. Requested Tukwila fire inspector response, Lt. Mosley and Lt. Kohler arrived, as did building"engineer. All checked out problem, Phil Johnson (bldg. eng.) did.not feel the situation was any cause for alarm,. as it has been this way for years. By'request of TFD inspectors, system. will be shut down until WNG returns in the morning to inspect heating system completely. Decision to be made at that time by TFD as to whether further action to be taken. • 96- 3R071 heceived Hist?ri%1 7 5 #I4n9W1493BYrWbOl S%MU83868 Entered 11/15/95 14:32:09 BY FD01 /SOPER Dispatched 11/15/95 14:32:17 BY FDOI /SOPER .Enroute 11/15/95 14:32:17 Onscene 11/15/95 14:32:17 Closed 11/15/95 16:10:55 Initial Type: NGASIN Initial Alarm Level: 1 Final Type: NGASXT (NATURAL GAS LEAK OUTSIDE (5A)) Pri: 1 Dispo: Alarm Le vel: 1 Police TP1400 Fire TF5340 Group: T9 Beat: Police Rms: Fire Rms: Medic Rms: Loc: 12200 EAST MARGINAL WY.S ,TUK near UNK Name: E53 Addr: Phone: ./1432 SOPER FDOI ENTRY POSS NAT GAS LEAK /.1432 FD01 $ASNCAS $TF95003866 /1432 FD01 DISPOS E53 #TF8163 EWING, DAVE,, #TF8793 CROWLEY, MARK #TF2730'WAMPOLE, BUDDY /1432 FD01 CHANGE TYP: NGASIN ---> .NGASXT. /1435 FD01 MISC E53 , ODQR IN BLDG /1435 FD01 MISC E53. , WNG NOTIFIED /1504 FD01 MISC E53 , WNG ON LOC /1.521- FD01 MISC E53 , TUK FIRE INV TONED' /1522 FD01 ASSTER 1510 [12200 EAST MARGINAL WY S ,TUK.] #TF1935 MO SLEY, JOHN /1523 FD01 MISC E53 , DEFECTIVE - SYSTEM FOR SPRAY BOOTHS /1534 DANICH FD01 ONSCNE I510 /1610 MELVIL FD01 MOBINS E53 /1610.
