TUKWILA FIRE DEPARTMENT INCIDENT REPORT NARRATIVE '
Date: 01/09/96 Incident: 96-000101-000
I received a call on the cell phone on L-54 from Chief Olivas. He
advised methat he had just received a call from a Ms. Susan Winters of
the Department of Ecology. She informed him that•her department had
just received an anonymous call from a citizen that stated she knew of
a one cup container of mercury found alongside a pathway -•at the 4400
hundred block of S. 152nd Street. Chief Olivas wanted us to go and see
if we could locate it and report to DOE where exactly it is so they
could arrange to have it removed and disposed.
Upon arrival in the area, we found there is no actual street
intersection with that address. Our investigation did find a'path that
students from Thorndyke Elementary take to get from the school to the
Valley View apartments, that would have that apr.oximate address.
We walked all along the path, and went off on a'couple.of splinter
paths off of the main path, and found no cup, container or indication
of the presence of mercury.
While out looking, I contacted Ms. Winters to see if she could give us
any additional information. She talked to the call reciever,(who was
new at the
job), and she stated she did not have any additional information, nor
did she havea call back number for the original caller.
With out any further information to go on, I informed Ms. Winters that
we had exhausted all possibilities we had, and had found nothing.
Because this "path" was right behind Thorndyke Elementary School, I did
stop in`and talk to the• principle. I informed him what we were looking
for, and advised him if he or his staff heard any of the students
talking about it that•he call 911 and have us handle the incident. He
appreciated the information and said he would call us if he heard
anything.
