TUKWILA FIRE DEPARTMENT INCIDENT REPORT* NARRATIVE
Date: 04/14/96 Incident: 96-001213-000
Engine 51 responded to a.fuel leak, with strong odar.and a wet' area by
a tank at•the above construction site. Upon arrival.we found a 200+
gallon portable tank had leaked diesel on the ground.thrpugh a hole in
the bottom of the tank. It_ap.peared the. tank had been damaged when it
was set on the make shift stand by the contractor'. We righted the tank
and,I caped for Aid 54 to bring 6 bags. of rice hull ash to soak up. the
fuel on the surface of the ground, we used 4 bags to cover area.
We attempted to contact someone from the Construction company without
sucess, 1 left a card with instructions.to call the station Monday.
morning. The area. of ground affected is from -4' to 6' wide and 15' to
20' in length. We were unable to determine the amount of fuel spilled,
but it appeared the contractor had just started setting forms.for the
footings and walls for this project. The fuel.was more than)likley for
the wood forms, as it was being despensed by gravity by means of a
quarter turn valve on the tank.
DOE will be called on Monday after determining the amount of fuel
spilled, and to confirm the contractor has the spill cleaned_up.
