TUKWILA FIRE DEPARTMENT INCIDENT REPORT NARRATIVE
Date: 04/29/96 Incident: 96-001387-000
On 27 April 1996, L-54 crew recovered a 5 lb propane tank
from 14702 51 Av. 5. (incident # 96-1363) This item was taken
from the scene and housed at Sta. 54. FF. Rees opened the valve
on the tank and stated there was a sulphur smell from the white
cloud that was emmitted. FF Rees was later examined at V. Mason.
Haz/Mat 52 was dispatched to Sta. 54. A level "8" entry was made.
A PH sample was taken as well as readings with the PHD monitor.
The product did not dispaly as flammable, and the indicated PH was
zero. The product was a very strong acid. The product is a black,
somewhat thick liquid. There was no pressure in the tenk.
The tank was overpacked and DOE was contacted. DOE kill be
dealing with disposal later in the week. The overpack will be
kept at Sta. 54 until that time.
