TUKWILA FIRE DEPARTMENT INCIDENT REPORT NARRATIVE
Date: 06/06/98 Incident: 98-001853-000
Dispatched to a possible hazardous materials spill. While enroute,
Fire 1 advised this was at the King County Household Hazardous Waste
collection site set up in the Larry's Market parking lot. She also
advised that this possible involved Pitric acid. I called for haz-mat
52 at that point. Upon arrival I met with the site manager. She
informed me that someone had just dropped off a few bottles of
different types of hazardous waste. That person had left the scene
before they realized they had this possibly hazardous situation. Some
of
the containers contained acids. One of the bottles was a small brown
glass bottle that had a solid in it. When they first looked at it,
they thought there
were crystals in the bottle. At that point their protocall dictates
that they call for the local jurisdiction to assist. Upon closer
examination, they found the material inside the bottle to be a powder,
not crystals. Some of the powder was in the shape of a pill, similar
in shape to an asprin. We jointly decided that this was not a "pitric
acid" situation. We clasified it as an unknown solid, and they
packaged it accordinly.
We all returned in service.
