TUKWILA FIRE DEPARTMENT INCIDENT REPORT NARRATIVE
Date: 08/02/99 Incident: 99-002508-000
GASOLINE SPILL (LEAKING FROM A VEHICLE)
Passerby smelled a strong odor of what he thought was gasoline - on
investigation found a passenger car leaking an unknown liquid smelling
similar to gasoline leaking from underside of car engine.
Upon arrival of L54, RP met crew and directed them to the leak/spill
area. FD investigation confirmed a spill of up to three gallons of
an ignitable liquid (possible gasoline) leaking from the engine
compartment. The vehicle WAS NOT locked, and there were no indications
of the vehicle's owner in plain view inside the vehicle. L54 requested
Tukwila PD to the scene for assistance. (Private property, TPD unable
to take any action other than referral to property owner).
L54 spread rice hull ash to absorb the spill, and advised the property
owner (Larry's Market - Scot Johnson, Manager) that the vehicle was
leaking on the property and that he may wish to have it towed away
before
it further contaminated the parking lot. Manager stated that he would
have the vehicle towed.
L54 took no further action; returning, in service.
