TUKWILA FIRE DEPARTMENT INCIDENT REPORT NARRATIVE
Date: 10/13/99 Incident: 99-003449-000
Report of a chemical leak into the Duwamish River (Good Intent Call)
E53, A54 dispatched to location for a report of a white, foaming
substance in the water directly below the 16th Avenue Bridge - believed
to be a leak/spill from Boeing Plant II (Third party report through the
US Coast Guard - no additional info available).
Upon arrival (WEST end of bridge, at south side/boat launch) unable
to findreported substance. A54 observed river from EAST side with
same results (nothing seen). Also requested Boeing Fire to respond to
location. E53 walked on foot NORTH of bridge, and was still unable to
locate any suspicious substance in river. At this time E53 cancelled
all incoming units and went in service.
During the investigation, it was reported through ValleyCom that Boeing
had spilled an amount of hydraulic fluid about 1/2 mile NORTH of the
location. They did not believe any had gotten into the river, but were
deploying booms as a precautionary measure.
While returning to quarters, E53 surveyed the area once more from
S Elmgrove St and 12 Av S, and again as E53 drove across the bridge
(WEST
to EAST) - still, with nothing visible.
