TUKWILA FIRE DEPARTMENT INCIDENT REPORT NARRATIVE
Date: 11/12/99 Incident: 99-003835-000
Reported as fuel leak at the Bon Marche D.C.. The involved truck
had sustained some sort of damage to the saddle tank cross-over.The
tractor was parked near the north end of the lot, almost in the
middle of the lot. There was a storm drain about 20 feet to the west.
The driver had placed an absorbant pillow between the tractor and the
drain to help control the flow. The tank seemed to be about 3/4 full.
The leak'was at a rate of about a gallon or so a min. The security
team and the truck driver had placed a bucket under the flow.
Although, about ten gallons had to have reached the strom drain.
Engine 52 and Haz/Mat 52 crews added some absorbant pads to the
area near the drain, as well as some in the area below the tank. We
then off loaded the fuel from the tank into a drum provided to us by
the Bon Marche. The Washington State DOE was contacted as these drains
are known to flow into the Green River. H/M Team Leader Stevens spoke
with Stan of DOE.
